Alternative Ceremony

Your ceremony can be anywhere indoors or outdoors, so if you fancy tying the knot on a beach, up a mountain, on a boat, in a ruined castle, on a river or loch side, in a barn, or even in your own kitchen, lounge or garden, there is no reason why you can’t follow your dream, and we would be totally delighted to be part of your dream team.

These two kilted young men above were part of the bridal party and their role was to alert us to the fact that brides Anna and Rachel were approaching, one from the East and one from the West!  We began the ceremony in the woods with a handfasting, then the piper and Anna and Rachel led us into the hall they had hired for part 2 which included a quaich ritual. They were extremely lucky to get to enjoy both the indoors and outdoors.

We Like To Say "Yes!" To Your Ideas!

You don’t have to be totally unconventional but you could be, as your alternative ceremony can be whatever and however you wish – we have yet to be asked to include something that we’ve needed to say no to – it’s been a yes to music, readings, stories, involvement, location, vows, décor, dress, time of day, day of the week and time of year!

Ruth and Jenny chose to be married outside just before the Winter Solstice at the amazing Green Loch near Aviemore.  Whilst snow would have been nice as it would have looked pretty, we had good weather which made travel easy and the walk to the loch a delight.

We took a few snaps along the way when we passed some beautiful trees.  Ruth and Jenny were dressed in warm coats and wellies, and they enjoyed a romantic walk to the loch, just chatting between themselves, feeling excited about the step they were about to make.  They each chose a reading to share, and enjoyed a handfasting with personal vows.  After the ceremony they headed back down to Perth to a friend's restaurant to celebrate.

    Time to Authentically Express Yourselves!

Jan and Ali were married in their local village hall, and a whole group of close friends were involved in their ceremony with songs and poems and ritual and prayer.  Everyone helped prepare the hall the day before with a spring clean and lots of creative decorations - it was very much a community affair.

It's lovely to have family and friends take part in a ceremony though not many people are as brave as one couple we know who had four friends plan and prepare their whole day as a surprise - and they were not disappointed.  They of course had to prepare their vows, but otherwise they had a 'Design Your Day' smorgasbord of wonderful food, drink, ritual, music, prayers, readings and fun!  Unforgettable.

Whether a large gathering or an elopement or wedding for two, hopefully you're getting the idea, anything goes for the format of your day and wedding ceremony.

    Dreams Can Come True!

For Linda and Denise, when they first enquired they had no idea where they wanted to be married, but they were happy to come to us and interested in natural outdoor locations near us.  They chose a spot at the Findhorn River where the rivers Findhorn and Divie meet - the spot they chose is actually sometimes under water when the waters are high.

It was quite an adventure.  They enjoyed a lovely walk through the woods to the wee beach, and to get down to the beach we had a rope tied to a tree - not quite climbing down but not far off.  The fizz stayed cool in the river.  We had Sarah and Mark with us playing music from 'The Gael' on fiddle and bodhran drum and we had all sorts of ritual.  Someone went past in a kayak, yelling 'congratulations'!  We even went for a paddle in the river after the ceremony.  It was an amazing day.

What would you choose?  If you have always had an idea that you feared may be too crazy or OTT let us know - you never know, maybe we can help and your crazy dream can come true?  You never know until you follow it.
